EV Charging Apps

When it comes to finding and using charging stations we've put together a short list of the apps we use and recommend. The first four are designed to show where charging stations are located:
  1. Plugshare - The preferred app for many EV drivers in the North America and Europe, Plugshare claims to have "the most accurate and complete public EV charging map worldwide." Features we like include the ability to check in at chargers, rate the experience, and communicate with other users about the overall experience (good or bad). We've found this helpful when a charger isn't working, we can find out if other users have had trouble with it as well, or even plan a trip knowing ahead of time which chargers are usually in good working order.
  2. ChargeHub - Also a great charger map app. They currently show more than 55,000 charge ports in US & Canada. We like the easy to identify color coded charge stations on the map and find the user interface very easy.
  3. Chargeway - Car & Driver magazine said, "Chargeway is absolutely game changing as it cuts through the clutter." It's simple and easy to use
  4. Zap-Map - This is the No. 1 charging app for the UK (only). The app displays live status data from many charging networks. We like the route planning feature and the up to date vehicle input options.

The next few are published by charging networks and make using the chargers on these networks much easier (with an account, and sometimes required):
  1. ChargePoint - The world's largest and most open EV charging network with over 100,000 charging spots. We like the ability to start and end the charging process right from our phone, and by adding a digital card to the wallet on the phone we can simply hold the phone up to the charger and wait for the beep. Then plug in... it's that easy.
  2. GreenLots - Use your smart phone to access chargers and take full advantage of payment flexibility and other features.
  3. EVgo - Find EVgo network chargers, check real time availability, and review your charging session in real time.
  4. Electrify America - They offer monthly subscription payments as well as pay-as-you-go (normal) options.
